Recessed Lighting
More About Recessed Lighting
A recessed light is installed directly into a ceiling with the body of the fixture and electrical components hidden. This provides a clean look with the appearance of light coming out from the ceiling. The lens of the fixture can be flush with the ceiling or may be recessed behind the ceiling line. Recessed lights are available in a wide variety of shapes, styles and colors, giving you options to customize your design.
A general rule of thumb used for spacing traditional 6" high hats was to divide the ceiling height by two (for example if you had an 8 foot ceiling, you would space your downlights approximately 4 feet apart). With an increasing range of options in terms of trim size and brightness, there are a lot more factors to consider when planning your layout and it's always a good idea to work with your contractor or designer on the optimal spacing. Depending on the size of your lights and lumen output, you may need to adjust this spacing to achieve your desired brightness level.
