What is recessed lighting?
A recessed light is installed directly into a ceiling with the body of the fixture and electrical components hidden. This provides a clean look with the appearance of light coming out from the ceiling. The lens of the fixture can be flush with the ceiling or may be recessed behind the ceiling line. Recessed lights are available in a wide variety of shapes, styles and colors, giving you options to customize your design.
How far apart should you install downlights in a room?
A general rule of thumb for spacing your recessed lighting is to divide your ceiling height by two. For example if you have 8 foot ceiling, you should space your downlights approximately 4 feet apart. Depending on the size of your lights and lumen output, you may need to adjust this spacing to achieve your desired brightness level.
